Anti Aging Products
The Truth

Is there a role for anti aging products?

Aging is a natural process but not one embraced by most people. The vast amounts of anti-aging products seen on store shelves is evidence of society’s reluctance to age gracefully and accept the inevitable. The anti-aging market is big business, drawing in billions of dollars every year from sales in products designed to keep us looking younger than we really are.

What Ages Us

From head to toe the aging process leaves its telltale signs, but with the assistance of anti-aging products, we can cut a few years from our appearances. Some places the body betrays its age are:
  • Hair – Both women and men begin to get grey or white hairs as they age. While primarily a male problem, balding and thinning of the hair occurs to women as well.

  • Skin – The skin on our face, neck, décolletage and hands show the biggest signs of our age. Wrinkles, furrows, lines and thinning skin are perhaps the biggest indicator of the ongoing aging process

  • Eyes – Dark circles under the eyes, tiny lines and wrinkles and red, bloodshot eyes all add years to the appearance.

  • Teeth – Teeth show signs of age as well. Yellowed and stained teeth are telling, as are receding gum lines.

  • Varicose Veins – While these unsightly veins can show up at as young an age as 18, they are usually associated with the aging process.

Turn the Clock Back

While the signs of aging will not be put off forever, no matter your age, if you are experiencing any of the above signs of aging, improvements can be made with anti-aging products and with some old-fashioned holistic advice.

Hair and Anti Aging Products

A solution to white or greying hair this problem is as simple as using a little hair dye. Whether you feel comfortable handling the dying process yourself or decide to consult an expert hairdresser, covering your gray hair is a quick fix that takes years off your appearance. While not a permanent solution, the process is easily repeated as needed, about every 4-6 weeks.

Thinning Hair and/ or Balding

Thinning hair and balding is one of the most embarrassing age betrayers, particularly for women. Over the counter products are available that have proven to slow and even reverse hair loss to some extent. Prescription treatments and even surgery are other viable options to consider in extreme cases of hair loss.

Skin and Anti Aging Products

anti aging products Your skin can either betray your age or conceal it, depending on its health and appearance. Perhaps the most effective in the multitude of anti-aging products available is sunscreen. Sun causes the most damage to skin, and protecting skin from UV rays will keep skin healthier and younger looking.

A vast number of other anti aging products for skin care in the form of lotions, creams, serums, supplements and injections claim to improve the health and appearance of skin as well. It’s important to do research and make careful decisions before investing money in products.

A natural, holistic approach to skincare is to drink lots of water, consume a healthy diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, and use natural supplements, like Vitamin E and other antioxidants in your skincare regimen. It is important to consult with your doctor before using any supplements that might interfere with any medications.

Eyes and Anti Aging Products

Dark circles, fine lines around the eyes and bloodshot whites of the eye give us an aged, worried look. While eye creams and serums address the fine lines, simply getting enough sleep on a nightly basis is a natural solution that will go a long way towards improving dark circles and bloodshot eyes.

Teeth

Yellow, stained teeth and receding gum lines indicate age, and white teeth and healthy gums indicate youth. Yellowed and stained teeth can be somewhat prevented by daily brushing, careful avoidance of foods and beverages that cause staining and by regularly teeth cleanings at the dentist’s office.

While at-home tooth whitening kits are available at the drug store or from your dentist, consider a holistic tooth whitener. One such at-home remedy involves crushing a strawberry, mixing it with ˝ teaspoon of baking soda, spreading the mixture on your teeth and leaving it on for five minutes before rinsing off.

Daily flossing is the best preventative for receding gum lines, and has many other health benefits as well.

Varicose Veins

While they frequently make an appearance earlier in life, varicose veins age the appearance of legs, and are uncomfortable as well. Some natural solutions to reduce varicose veins are to stay physically active, lose weight, avoid sitting for long periods of time, and avoid crossing the legs. More invasive procedures are available in extreme situations and discussing options with your doctor is advisable.

Anti-aging Products and The Truth

Some of the easiest to use, least invasive anti-aging products listed above will make you look younger, but it’s wise to be realistic in your expectations. Doing careful research and making educated decisions is also a wise approach when considering the use of anti-aging products.

The truth is that aging is an inevitable process, and that hair dye, teeth whiteners and other anti-aging products will only get you so far. Regaining youth in its entirety is impossible, and at some point it is best to accept aging and all that comes with it.
